You must help as the person chooses. Saving the life of someone who doesn’t want to be saved is not helping. It is interfering. You must shift from what you think helps a person to let the person tell you what they need. Sometimes, and most often, they want you to listen and not advise. So, be more helpful in causing them to tell you or discover for themselves what they choose to have or know. Ask questions – it’s really how you are most helpful. No one wants to be told what to do, especially not you.
