We question God’s love for the world when, especially in the aftermath of a great human tragedy, we see the obvious signs of human suffering. It is in questioning God’s motives that we either gain new insight or fear the impending wrath of God. Many believe that it is not our right to question God’s motives. Who do you know that has ever been struck by lightening after having questioned God? It is far more likely that you will be struck by lightening if you are under a tree during a thunder storm than that God Himself will strike you down for simply trying to get to know Him better. Fear of God is the greatest barrier to knowing God. It is when we feel abandoned by God that we gather the courage to lash out and finally seek the answers to the mysteries of His motives.
