On the subject of life, will you even understand that it is merely a pretense? You are not what you have imagined nor are you what you have experienced. This is all merely nothing but a game of “what if.” How you perceive life is largely how you will live it. What is temporal cannot be meaningful. Think of all that was once deemed important but now is meaningless. Things pass by the window of your view to someday disappear. No longer is it worthy of your attention. If this is how life works, and I assure you it is, then why not loosen up and see things from a larger perspective? Why not look upon all things as temporary situations and let go of your attachments. For in this there is great freedom. One day you are obsessed with buying a new house. Once you have gotten the house, your focus changes entirely. Then there is an entirely new set of items on which to focus. Your tendency to put great importance on temporary situations does cause you to miss the greater aspects of life. Were you to focus on larger, truly meaningful pursuits, then the daily mundane issues would seem almost laughable. Let’s say that instead of spending all of your time focused on financial issues you were to put your efforts into feeding the hungry. Once caught up in the plight of those less fortunate, your problems would seem so much less in comparison.
